Former Spalding pub is demolished as work starts on 61 bed care home




A former pub has been demolished as work starts on constructing a 61-bed care home.

The Birds pub in Halmergate has now been knocked down to make way for the new development, which will create more than 60 jobs for the area.

Glenholme Healthcare Group and Life Property Construction Ltd were given planning permission earlier this year by South Holland District Council.

The care home will provide specialised beds for people in need of care and living with dementia.

Managing Director of the Glenholme Group Kent Phippen said: "We are going to start construction straight away and it should be a 12 month development period.

"It should be open for next year."

The pub served its last pint on Sunday, December 9 last year after owners Hungry Horse revealing that it would close.
