Pulvertoft Farm open day blooms into life

A flower farm brought sunshine and happiness to 140 people as they explored acres of land.

Pulvertoft Flowers in Gedney Broadgate opened to the public for the first time on Sunday to raise funds for Lincolnshire Air Ambulance.

As part of the national Flowers from the Farm Big Weekend, the opening allowed visitors to take in the sights and smells, enjoy locally made produce and even take home some seeds of their own.

Owner Fiona Paxton was delighted with how well the event went.

“It really was amazing,” she said.

“There were all kind of people here, from other growers and people in horticulture to people interested in gardening and wildlife enthusiasts.

“We had the bee keepers from Lincolnshire Honey here, Jackalope Joe Coffee, cakes from Maple Tree Bakes in Lutton and Norbury’s too. They all did well.

“I think everyone loved it - it was the first time we have opened in that way so I think people might not have been sure what they were going to see as we are relatively new too.”

The flower farm is in its second year but has already seen business bloom, supplying fresh and dried flowers for wedding florists and events while also selling at farmer’s markets.

Fiona was able to deliver talks to the visitors about her business and its vision, while Berryfields Animal Assisted Education were also on hand to talk about their work with a selection of their donkeys and ponies.

Fiona said: “As part of the event we also taught the visitors about seed collecting with the plants that were just about to go over.

“We showed them how to collect the seeds so that every person could take some home and sow them in their own garden.

“I would really like to do this again next year because we are in our infancy and it will be nice for people to come back each year to see the growth and how the site will change as time goes on.”
