Fenland actor is set to hit the big screen this autumn

A young Fenland actor is living the dream as she is set to make her big screen debut later this year in a horror movie.

Maddison Nixon, 23, caught the acting bug from a young age starring in productions at the Angles Theatre in Wisbech under the watchful eye of her late uncle and theatre stalwart Emlyn Moment.

She loved performing in school plays at Peckover Primary and later at Spalding High School before deciding acting was what she wanted to do for a living.

Maddison, whose parents Angela and Mark live in Barton Road alongside her grandparents Rodney and Sandra Nixon, was selected to attend ArtsEd in West London one of the top drama schools in the UK aged 16.

She gained four A-levels whilst there before going on to the Rose Bruford University - a specialist drama school also in London - from where she graduated with a First Class Honours degree last year.

Whilst in her final year at university Maddison sent off her details to an army of casting directors.

Maddison said: "Obviously you can't be shy about putting yourself forward in this industry. So I just sent off my information and asked them to keep me in mind if anything suitable came up.

"Then out of the blue I got a reply saying there was a role they thought I would be really suitable for so I sent off my audition tape. I didn't hear anything for six months and then I got an email from the casting director asking me to try out for another part in the same film - and I got the job."

Maddison, who has an elder brother, Jacob, who like his dad and grandad is a fuel tanker driver, is playing the part of Ginger Rogers - the Hollywood icon - in 'The Queen Mary', which is being directed by Gary Shore best known for the film Dracula Untold.

It is the first part of an intended trilogy based on the iconic ocean liner, which is said to be one of the world's top paranormal hot spots, and Maddison has just completed filming. The movie is due for release this autumn.

She said: "I know I'm really lucky that my professional debut out of drama school is in a film made for the big screen, making it also both my professional screen and big screen debuts, it doesn't always happen like that for most people so I'm really grateful and very excited about it and can't wait for it to come out for people to watch."

Maddison is already auditioning for other parts including with Hollywood giants Warner Bros and also Netflix and is currently filming a car commercial in Iceland.

But local audiences won't have to wait too long to see Maddison in action as she returns to her home town this month with her own theatre company producing and performing the Cordelia O'Neill play 'Anything is possible if you think about it hard enough' at the Angles Theatre - the place where her acting career began with the role of Tinkerbell in Peter Pan.

Maddison said: "When you leave drama school you can never be sure you are going to get any work so me and some fellow graduates set up our own theatre company so that we could build up our portfolios. We do everything and it is great experience."

Freckled Things Theatre Company & Ducdame Theatre will be performing the award-winning play at the Angles on Friday August 19 and Saturday August 20 and there are limited tickets still available.
