Spalding area singers will be taking part in a festive concert in Peterborough
Singers from South Holland will be among those taking part in a special festive concert in Peterborough.
After an uncertain time for the performing arts, and with many Christmas events already cancelled, Peterborough Voices and Peterborough Male Voice Choir – part of the Peterborough Sings! charity - are delighted their annual Christmas Magic show is still taking place at the city’s cathedral.
A revised, COVID-secure seating plan means availability at the three shows on December 12 is limited, but audiences can still expect to hear festive favourites including Most Wonderful Time of Year, When a Child is Born, White Christmas, Little Saint Nick and The Christmas Song as well as modern songs too.
Moulton Chapel farmer John Wakefield, a member of Peterborough Male Voice Choir, said it has been a tough time for the singers with many events and rehearsals cancelled due to the pandemic.
“We always look forward to this concert, as it’s the perfect way to get in the Christmas spirit for the festive season ahead,” said John, “With so many events cancelled this year it will be a rare opportunity to see a live show.
“When lockdown came we were unable to rehearse in person for well over five months, but we have kept busy by doing rehearsals over the internet.
“Since changes in Government regulations we’ve been meeting in person to rehearse although they are quite different now due to the measures we have to take.
“We miss the social side of choir and hopefully we will be able to get that back next year but it’s good to be able to put our voices together and see how good it sounds.
“Whilst it seems odd to be singing Christmas songs in September things are sounding good for a great concert in December.”
l Christmas Magic is at Peterborough Cathedral at 11am, 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, December 12. Tickets from £18 available at www.peterboroughsings.org.uk or by calling 0333 666 3366 (fees apply).
