Flatlands Alpacas in Crowland held festive open day, offering visitors chance to meet the animals and attend Santa’s grotto

A festive open day was held where families could meet Santa along with some very special animals.

The Christmas event was held at Flatlands Alpacas, Crowland and youngsters got to meet the alpacas who live there.

They also received a gift from Santa plus refreshments being served by Trinity Bakery with their hot doughnuts and a barbecue by Crowland Family Butchers.

“We had more than 160 people come on the day – the only thing that scuppered it was the rain.

“I like Christmas and the money I charge covers the gifts, Santa and his helpers – it is good value for money for a good festive day out.”

The centre houses nine alpacas which range in age from one to seven years old and the animals originate from South America.

During the open day there was festive entertainment from singers Fortissimo and youngsters got some quality time with Father Christmas.

Miss Holland said: “They get 10 to 15 minutes to talk to Santa – they are not rushed through.

“They get to see the alpacas and make a nice memory.”

Money was also raised on the day for a cancer charity with Jan Lowther who makes ‘jarbolas’ – painted jars with gifts inside which sold well.

Miss Holland said: “She said it’s the best day she has ever had since she’s been raising money.”

Miss Holland has penned a book called The Search for an Alpaca and currently has a special deal.

She said: “If people buy my book, for a limited time we are giving away a voucher for a free child’s place at our meet and greet experience with every purchase.

“Our book makes a lovely Christmas gift made even more special as it includes a visit to meet the stars of the book.”
