Spalding Flower Parade is hours away as volunteers prepare floats for the big event
With only one evening left before floats start to make their way around the town, volunteers are close to the finishing line.
Spalding Flower Parade takes place tomorrow (Saturday, May 10), starting and finishing at Springfields Events and Conference Centre as visitors are expected to line the streets.
Volunteers have been picking tulip heads and are busy pinning them to the floats for the musical themed event.
Laura Hudson, creative lead, said: “Three of the smaller floats are finished.
“We started pinning the tulips to the floats and will continue with last minute preparations and decorating flatbed trailers.
“The final push - it has come round so quickly.”
Laura has seen many new faces joining in with the volunteer efforts this year helping to pick tulips at a Norfolk farm ahead of the spectacle.
She said: “There were about 30 in total for picking.
“I've lost track of how many have come to help pin, but around 30 to 40 over the course of this year to decorate and build from the start.
“I've seen at least 30 new faces this week.”
Volunteers are essential to the parade which was resurrected in 2023 by Stephen Timewell - and the committee relies on voluntary help - managed by Tanya Chandler - and fundraising throughout the year.
Sir John Hayes, MP South Holland and The Deepings hopes to secure funding with Arts Council England and Lincolnshire Community Trust to ensure the future of the event.
Music and entertainment takes place tonight at Springfields with tribute bands Abba Orbirt and Badness.
There is music and entertainment throughout tomorrow (Saturday) including Vikki Earle as Not Taylor Swift.
A wedding will also be taking place on the same day at Woodlands Hotel between Hollie Mason and Bradley O’Cruelly who are from Bourne.
