Finishing touches added to new Spalding care home which will create up to 100 new jobs
The finishing touches are being added to a new care home which has been built on the site of a former pub in Spalding.
Building work has now finished on Halmer Court, a 61-bedroom care home which has been created on the old Birds Pub site in Halmer Gate.
Crazy golf and a bistro are among the things which will be offered to residents when the care home opens shortly.
Manager Jude Reeve is looking forward to opening the care home’s doors to new residents, along with creating up to 100 new jobs in the area.
Jude said: “It is really exciting as the building work is complete and we are adding the finishing touches.
“I am really proud of how it looks and can’t wait to be supporting people who need our support. The team can make a difference to people’s lives.
“I am also keen to make sure that we are part of the community. Sometimes care homes can feel apart from the community but I want to be involved and engaged.
“I am looking to work with schools on intergenerational projects.”
Work to create this new home began in 2019 when the pub, which served its last pint the year before, was demolished and building working got under way.
Halmer Court will be looking after 61 residents, who will have en-suite bedrooms.
Other attractions offered by the new home include a salon bistro and a courtyard garden.
Beyond that, the garden will be split into three zones and includes a crazy golf section and a potting shed.
Jude said that it was important to provide therapeutic activities for those living with dementia.
She said: “It is important to get the therapeutic activities right for the individual. Some people have had really busy lives.
“We need to tailor the care around the people who live here.
“We can’t keep churning out the same old models of care - we have to listen to the people we are supporting.”
Jude is keen to work with local schools.
She said: “In previous homes I have worked at we have welcomed pre school children to be with the residents and what both parties gain is amazing.
“We have also worked with children with special needs and the acceptance between the residents and the children is wonderful.”
