Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has ‘number of appliances’ at incident in Spalding’s Pennygate
Homeowners have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed as fire crews tackle a large incident.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said it has a ‘number of appliances’ in attendance at an incident in Pennygate, Spalding this lunch time.
Crews say the incident is a ‘domestic fire’ and may have started from a garden shed.
Four Lincolnshire fire engines and two from Cambridgeshire were sent to the scene to tackle the incident.
A spokesman said: “If you are in the area, please make sure you stay away from the area of the fire and keep doors and windows closed.”
Spalding councillor Ingrid Sheard, who is also the deputy mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, has praised local people.
She said: “I would like to say a great big thank you to all of the people who got involved while the fire incident in Pennygate was happening.
“They helped people by assisting with medication, assisting with moving them away from the site of the fire and a whole host of other things to ensure that their safety and wellbeing was taken care of.
“It’s fantastic to see community come together at times of need. - this community certainly did. I have to commend everybody who was involved, the fire service, the police, everybody involved. They handled the situation with the utmost professionalism and care. Thank to you all.”
