Flood alerts issued for parts of Spalding, Surfleet, Bourne and Donington
Two flood alerts are in place for parts of our area.
The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for the South Forty Foot and the Lower Welland catchment areas following days of heavy rain – with the warning of more on the way.
The South Forty Foot warning – which was updated at 11.41am today (Tuesday, January 2) - runs from the edge of Bourne to Boston taking in Tongue End, Pinchbeck, Donington and Hubbert’s Bridge.
A flood alert for the South Forty Foot states: “Heavy rainfall has fallen onto saturated ground over the past few days in the South Forty Foot Drain catchment area. This has caused river levels to rise, leading to flooding of low lying land and roads close to rivers.

“Further heavy rainfall is forecast today (Tuesday, January 2) so we expect rivers to remain high throughout the next few days.
“Flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river.
“We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
The second alert for the Lower Welland area covers watercourses from Stamford to Spalding, including Market Deeping and Spalding.
It was updated last night to state: “We expect the rivers to remain high throughout the next few days.”
Another flood alert has been issued for the Bourne and Lower Glen catchment area, which covers from Greatford to Surfleet Seas End, including the Bourne Eau in Bourne and the area around Kates Bridge, Baston and Pinchbeck.
The latest update states: “Heavy rainfall has fallen onto saturated ground over the past few days in the Lower Glen and Bourne Eau catchment area. This has caused river levels to rise, leading to flooding of low lying land and roads close to rivers.”
Last week the Welland and Deepings Internal Drainage Board stated that it’s Pode Hole Pumping Station has been operating 24 hours a day throughout December due to the heavy rain which has been battering the area.
