Flower Parade donated for people of Spalding
Spalding councillors are hoping to make use of a donated Flower Parade float at next year’s parade.
Town representatives have asked for the district council to release £10,000 to pay for a float on behalf of residents.
At last week’s Spalding Town Forum, however, members were told that Coun Henry Bingham has a float trailer at his nursery that he has offered up for use.
Members are hoping the 9x3.1 metre structure can be used for their float - which will carry the town’s ‘ambassadors’ and include a tribute to the Queen and Coun Angela Newton.
Forum chairman Roger Gambba-Jones said: “There’s still a cost but there still should be some saving to the taxpayers in Spalding for not having a float provided for us in that respect. That’s a bonus at this point of time.”
Coun Gambba-Jones had said he was waiting to get details from Steve Timewell with a breakdown of where the money will be spent.
He said this would be needed before the district will release the cash.
He asked Coun Anthony Cronin, who has a finance background, to take a lead on ensuring the money is accounted for.
Coun Gambba-Jones added: “That’s the one thing that worries me. South Holland District Council will not release any money unless we are satisfied we know where it’s going and what it’s spent on.”
