Greenyard Fresh fruit factory in Pinchbeck, Spalding set to close in coming months

A South Holland food supplier is set to cease operations this summer.

Greenyard Fresh, which has premises at Stephenson Avenue in Pinchbeck, will be ‘divested’ in the coming months after a company-wide decision to shut down fresh producers in the UK.

This comes after analysis which Greenyard believes shows ‘insufficient room for standalone profitable growth’ in that particular market.

More than 200 jobs could reportedly be affected by any closure.

The exact future of the fruit factory has yet to be confirmed. It produces the likes of apples, pears and other tropical fruit.

Complications from Brexit and supply chain disruptions have also been touted as reasons behind the closures.

This did not stop the company, which has headquarters in Belgium, recording increased profits in this sector in the last year.

However, the statement did add: “Greenyard emphasises that it fully commits to its Frozen activities in the UK, in the Long Fresh segment, where it has a leading position.”

The company has Long Fresh sites in Boston and King’s Lynn.
