Charity worker Matt Rogers is raising cash so a young blind man with epilepsy can enjoy the sunshine at the Sense home in Pinchbeck.

Lawrence Marshall (25) has several drop seizures a day and staff must hold his hands and place large beanbags around him so he can't fall onto concrete slabs.

Matt aims to buy safety surfacing, similar to that in parks, and has already raised just over £340 towards the £1,000 target.

"I want Lawrence to enjoy the garden," said Matt. "He loves standing in the sun. He can't use the garden to it's full potential and the garden is for everybody."

Matt, wife Lisa and daughter Chloe raised £241.91 with a charity stall at Spalding market and Lisa's employers Bakkavor added a £100 donation.

Spalding shops supported the stall with tombola prizes and putting up posters.

Originally from Brigg, north Lincolnshire, Lawrence has lived at the Sense home for six years.

His mum, Zaria Raby, says he has tonic-clonic seizures (formerly known as grand mal) and drop seizures.

Zaria is delighted about the project to help her son.

She says Lawrence has had injuries in the past, but won't wear a helmet because "he hates things on his head".

Zaria said: "He will collapse straight down. No matter how quick you are there's nothing you can do."

Matt hopes to do a car wash as his next fundraiser, building on the success of the stall.

He said: "I would like to thank the shops who donated prizes and everyone who came to the stall."

Among the shops helping out were Boots, B&Q, Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, The Body Shop, The Sweet Emporium, Spar in Pinchbeck, In-Trim, Goose's Garden, Hargrave's butchers, Rookes and Knight Street Pharmacy.
