New garden centre enclosure for Morrisons at Pinchbeck?
Supermarket giant Morrisons is seeking to build a garden centre enclosure at its Pinchbeck store.
Currently garden products, including plants, are kept under a canopy beside the main entrance - or on a paved area in front of the entrance.
But now the company wants to put up a structure similar to a giant trolley bay.
If planning consent is given by South Holland District Council, the structure will stand 3.2m high and measure 11.95m by 4.15m.
The roof will be made of Perspex panels - as will the sliding doors and "windows" - and the frame will be powder-coated aluminium.
The supermarket also wants to create a new pedestrian crossing with associated signage, dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
A Morrisons spokeswoman said: "In addition to their regular shop, customers tell us that they want useful services available at our stores.
"In response, we have installed our popular seasonal garden centre at Pinchbeck which offers a range of outdoor plants and gardening accessories.
"We have submitted a planning application for the garden centre structure and welcome discussions with South Holland District Council to finalise the plans."
The supermarket is accessed from Benner Lane on the Wardentree Lane industrial estate.
A statement on behalf of Morrisons submitted to the council says the plan will allow the company to "enhance the customer experience by increasing the range on offer".
It says the new garden centre enclosure will go directly opposite the main entrance and needs to create a quality environment.
The statement continues: "The preferred layout has been dictated by the orientation of the existing garden centre structure and the canopy roof structure at the main entrance, which provides additional cover from adverse weather conditions."
The statement says both the entrance to the main store and garden centre will comply with disability legislation.
