South Holland District Council announces expansion of garden waste scheme

More households will have the opportunity to get a brown bin with the expansion of a popular garden waste scheme next year.

South Holland District Council has announced that it will resume the expansion garden waste scheme in January following the shake-up of refuse and recycling collection routes in October.

The council says that it will start to meet the growing demand from residents for a brown bin in a ‘phased approach’ to those who are signed up to the Register of Interest list.

Coun Jack Tyrrell, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “Our garden waste scheme has always been popular with residents across the district, making it more convenient for them to work on their garden and instead of having to drive to their local HWRC with their waste, we’ll pick it up from their door.”

“I’m really pleased that as a council we can begin to roll-out to more households and tackle our existing waiting list starting in January next year. We will do our best to get as many new people on the scheme as we can, but do bear with us during this time and we will get you when we are able to do so.”

The council says that people who have already registered their interest do not have to contact them again and will receive a letter explaining what steps they need to take to join the scheme and receive their bin.

Households who have been on the list the longest will be given priority grouped in geographical areas in order to join pre-existing routes, with subscriptions being offered out each week.

Residents who are not already on the list, but who like to be part of the expansion plans can join the ‘Register Of Interest’.
