GCSE results 2021: University Academy Holbeach students praised for hard work and determination
Hard work has paid off for delighted students at the University Academy Holbeach, who opened their GCSE results at the school this morning (Thursday).
After a challenging 18 months that has seen home working and teacher-assessed grades, the proud youngsters were celebrating some wonderful achievements.
Some 81% of pupils passed English and 73% Maths. In all, 77% of the cohort achieved five or more GCSE passes.
Sophie Smith, from Sutton Bridge, was delighted with her Grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, both Englishes, Geography, History, Maths and Physics. Staying at the UAH to do A-levels, Sophie said: "I worked hard and those were the grades I was really hoping for. I am so happy."
Ellie Loveridge, from Holbeach, was delighted with her five Grades 8s in Chemistry, English Language, French, Geography and Maths, and she also got three sevens.
Ellie, who is going to do A-levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths at Stamford College, said: "I am overwhelmed but very proud of myself. Home studying was not easy. I'm going to celebrate with a McDonalds!"
Jess Wright, from Long Sutton, will stay on at the UAH to do A-levels in History, Politics and Law after her success, which included Grade 9s in Business and Geography and Grade 8s in English Language and Literature and Food Preparation and Nutrition.
"I worked really hard and now I feel great," she said. "We're going to have a Chinese meal tonight to celebrate."
Moulton Chapel student Katie Johnson got distinctions in Design Technology and Childcare and Grade 8s in Maths, History, English Language and Combined Sciences. Katie, who is staying on to do a BTEC in Health & Social Care, said: "I worked really hard but I didn't expect to do so well. I'm really happy."
Erin Wheelhouse, of Weston, achieved distinctions in Childcare and DT Graphics, plus Grade 7s in Geography and English Literature, and will stay on at the UAH for A-levels. She said: "It was tough home working but I tried really hard and now I'm so pleased. I couldn't sleep last night so I'm going home to sleep and relax now!"
Tilly Ransome, from Lutton, was awarded distinctions in Childcare and Health and Social Care and also got a Grade 7 in Geography. Tilly, who is staying at the UAH to take a BTEC in Health and Social, said: "I'm so happy and proud to have passed everything. I worked really hard but I've still done better than I expected."
Daniel Morris, from Whaplode St Catherine, was delighted with his grades, which included a 9 in Maths, 8s in Physics and Biology and 7 in Chemistry.
"I feel pretty good. It was challenging studying from home but I worked hard and I've done better than I expected in some subjects," said Daniel, who will now take A-levels at the UAH.
Principal Sheila Paige said: "The pupils deserve praise on their impressive GCSE results, after months of hard work and determination. Pupils have worked with resilience and commitment and they have justly been rewarded for their efforts.
"I should like to thank the staff who worked tirelessly to ensure our pupils have been assessed fairly and accurately. They have undertaken the enormous task of preparing, marking and moderating examination papers.
"I should also like to extend my appreciation to our parents and guardians and the governing body who have shown tremendous support during the last 18 months.
"Our pupils can be proud that they have not only achieved excellent results, but that they have done this during a time of sudden and continual change.
"I wish all those that are due to embark on new pathways every success. We thank them for the time they have spent with us.
"In September we very much look forward to welcoming both current and new pupils who will study an impressive range of A-levels and technical and vocational qualifications or join us as an apprentice with local employers."
