Three Bourne Academy students each bagged a brace of the top grade 9s as the school posted brilliant GCSE results.

The trio are Joseph Rushforth (Science and History), Louix Symak-Cotton (Maths and Science) and Alice Walker (English Language and Spanish).

The most successful student overall was Gaby Ndlovu, who excelled with seven grade 8s.

Head teacher Laurence Reilly said: "In what was a very uncertain year, with letter grades being replaced by the new 1 to 9 scale, we were pleased to see that the overall progress of our students has increased considerably compared to 2017.

"We anticipate that the all important ‘Progress 8’ figure, which Ofsted are rightly very interested in, will be well above the national average when published later in the year.

"During the 2017-18 academic year, we introduced a strategy aimed at increasing the number of higher grades achieved by our Year 11 students.

"The success of this strategy is illustrated by the fact that the number of grades at 7 and above - ie equivalent to grade A and above - increased from just under 200 in 2017 to well over 300 this year.

"Grade 9, the new A** grade, was achieved in a range of subjects, including English language, English literature, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Spanish and Art."
