Spalding’s Pacey’s bakery has new owners
The people who brought a much-loved bakery back to life have now agreed to pass the reins onto a new owner.
Pacey’s bakery is still serving its iconic rolls and cakes in Red Lion Street, Spalding, thanks to the hard work and dedication of George and Sharon Tear, who re-ignited the coal fires after it was feared had been shut for the final time.
Now nearly 10 years after in charge of the bakery, the couple have now agreed to sell the business to Carl Newell.
George and Sharon have thanked their team and customers during a post on Facebook.
It states: “August 2014 was the date Mr Pacey closed his doors for the last time, we never thought we’d see the day our beloved local bakery’s fires burnt out. Some may think we were foolish, others brave but the decision was made to attempt to restore and bring back Spalding’s best loved bakery.
“We planned, renovated, recruited and painted and with smoke appearing once more from the 100 year old chimney stack, we reopened the doors in January 2015. Nothing comes easy in life and at times we struggled and doubted our decision, but we persevered and after almost 10 years we feel its time to sit back and let someone else take the reins.
“You may have already met him as he’s been working steadily in the shop since February and we feel confident he’s the perfect fit to keep the cogs turning. Carl will no doubt change things in the future but for now rest assured he will continue to keep things the same, along with all the trusty team.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support and good wishes when we opened, we could not have done any of this without you all.
“Special mentions must go out to Ian Waters who had been a baker at Pacey’s all his life. If you’d said no to having your job back that day we asked, our journey would never have started. With you on our side we, ‘gave it a go’.
“Lennie joined us at the start and continues to hold the fort to this day after Ian’s retirement, you never complain and get the job done, no matter how big the orders have become. Especially during Covid, when our online shop was created and deliveries were introduced for everyone, in fact it felt like the whole of Lincolnshire!
“Lisa and Jill also started with us at the very beginning and are still familiar faces amongst our team of 28. Lynda joined the team at the end of 2015 and continues to keep us all in order, she does everything from paperwork, searching for new ideas for different cakes, treats and afternoon teas and not forgetting her amazing enthusiasm for decorating the shop for flower parade and Christmas.
“Thank you all for your loyalty, dedication and hard work, you all make Pacey’s what it is today and we know you will continue to do so working for Carl. You are all too incredible for words and we will miss you all.
“Obviously we will still be in from time to time, we can never go without our Pacey rolls, or treats and I’m sure we’ll still see lots of you in town, but for now its thank you and goodbye, as we leave you in Carl’s capable hands.”
