Students from Spalding High and Spalding and Bourne Academies compete in Spalding and Welland Rotary Club Chef of the Year contest

Students from Spalding High School and Spalding and Bourne Academies competed to be Rotary Young Chef of the Year.

The competition was held at Spalding High School, organised by Spalding and Welland Rotary Club and once again sponsored by South Lincs Food services.

The students were challenged to cook a main course and dessert served on a table for two peeople on a budget of just £14.

Head judge Robert Presland of Peterborough Regional College congratulated all the entrants on their excellent meals and presented the prizes to winners.

First was Georgia Bedford (Spalding High),second Bronwyn Roche (Bourne Academy) and third Jessica Thorpe (Spalding Academy).

Georgia’s winning entry comprised: main course – cheese souflee with roasted butternut squash; desert – blackberry mille feuille.

Georgia will represent Spalding and Bronwyn Bourne in the district competition in February.

This is a popular competition which encourages young people to cook and eat healthy food and many go on to study Food Science, Nutrition and Catering at University.
