South Holland voters warned to check their polling cards ahead of winter General Election

South Holland is gearing up for the first winter General Election in nearly 100 years but voters are warned to be aware of possible changes to their usual polling stations.

Preparations are already well under way at South Holland District Council to ensure residents will be able to go to the polls on Thursday, December 12.

However, by holding an election in the run-up to Christmas means that some of the usual polling stations may not be available due to nativity plays and other events.

Democratic Services Manager Rhonda Booth said the council is working closely with schools.

She said: "Something for our electors is to please check your polling cards as we may have to move your polling station to a different venue.

"It may not be your usual venue as it may depend on the availability in the lead up to Christmas."

Some political parties have announced the names of candidates who will be hoping to become MP for South Holland and the Deepings.

Current MP Sir John Hayes has once again been confirmed as the candidate for the South Holland and the Deepings Conservative Association.

Earlier this year, the South Lincolnshire Green Party announced that Spalding man Martin Blake was their parliamentary candidate.

The South Holland and the Deepings Labour Party will be hoping to release the name of their candidate in the coming days.

South Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats is also due to announce the name of its candidate for the South Holland seat soon.

While the Brexit Party is also hoping to announce its candidate shortly.

During the debate in Parliament on Tuesday, two local MPs, Sir John and Matt Warman (Boston and Skegness) voted in favour of an election.

While Nick Boles (Stamford and Grantham which covers Bourne) did not vote.
