Woozlebears in Pinchbeck celebrates first anniversary helping pets get back on their paws

A company that offers hydrotherapy sessions for dogs and cats has shared stories of how they’ve given pets a new lease of life – despite facing tricky trading conditions.

Woozlebears in Pinchbeck recently marked its first birthday by doing what it does best, getting pets back on their paws.

However, owners Andrew and Lauren Greedy said that hydrotherapy sessions don’t just help injured pets that need rehabilitation and said how important it is that dogs need to learn how to swim.

Andrew said: “It’s been a really good year, harder than we were anticipating. I don’t think its been different than any other business.

“We didn’t know what to expect with Covid and the cost of living crisis.”

Both Andrew and Lauren have over a decade of experience in veterinary nursing each and were inspired in providing rehabilitation.

Lauren said: “We saw the operations and the orthopaedic side of things. We saw the buildup of animals coming in broken and hurt, but there was no follow up with rehabilitation, there was nothing in our area.”

During the past year, Woozebears has helped a number of canine and feline friends and shared stories about how they’ve given animals a new lease of life.

They’ve also trained dogs who compete in Crufts to help them on their “fitness journey.”

Andrew said: “We’ve had dogs come in that couldn’t fully walk on its back legs, and later comes back running.

“We had a cat struggling to stand and hopping on three legs, and after can walk properly again.”

Lauren, who has hip dysplacia and rheumatoid arthritis, explained how hydrotherapy helped her.

She said: “I felt the benefits and I wanted to pass that onto animals.”

Lauren continued to describe the benefits that pets can have by using the hydrotherapy pool, such as helping with dogs with stress and anxiety, swelling as well as aiding circulation.

She said: “It’s not just medical transformations we see, a lot of dogs come in who are scared of the water but are now bounding in and jumping in the water.

“Going in the pool cools them down in hot weather and is physically stimulating.”

Woozlebears also has a grooming service and uses a pool and an underwater treadmill as part of their hydrotherapy.

Lauren explained why it’s important for dogs to know how to swim.

She said: “Not all dogs know how to swim, we live in an area with lots of dykes and rivers.

“It’s having the safe peace of mind of knowing they know what to do.

“Dogs are like children, they splash around in the water and exhaust themselves out which isn’t good in an emergency situation.”

She also advised against walking dogs in hot weather and that using the pool can cool people’s pets down while giving them the exercise they need.

Andrew said: “We just want to thank our clients that have supported and recommended us. Spalding has been really welcoming to us, we opened at the back end of Covid.

“We are really proud to be in the heart of the town.”
