Rebecca Neno, deputy director of system delivery, said: “We are aware of some disruption to NHS services locally—affecting our local hospitals, community services, and primary care—as a result of the global IT outage, but we are managing this.

“Both practices have plans in place and are seeing patients where clinically safe to do so.

“There may be some delays, but patients should continue to attend appointments unless told otherwise.

“Please remember to use NHS services sensibly and appropriately, and to be kind to all our staff, whether that’s in your GP practice, your local pharmacy, or in hospital.”

NHS England said there were “long-standing” measures in place to manage the disruption, including paper records and handwritten prescriptions.

Patients should attend appointments unless instructed otherwise and contact their GP only if urgent.

Major IT outages have affected industries worldwide, including flights, banking, and retail

Microsoft confirmed that the cause of the IT outage has been fixed, though some services are still impacted.

The issue was linked to an update from the third-party software, CrowdStrike.

Bosses confirmed the issue is not a security incident or cyber attack.
