Spalding Good Neighbour Scheme survey now open to the public

People in Spalding can have their say now on whether a Good Neighbour Scheme should be set up for the town.

Questionnaires are being posted to homes in an effort to find out whether a community-run project, aiming to improve the lives of elderly, vulnerable and isolated people should go ahead.

A working group, including representatives from the Welland Senior Forum and South Holland District Council, has been to establish the scheme in Spalding.

Good Neighbour Schemes are already running in Gosberton and Quadring, while one for East Elloe (Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge) went operational on Monday (November 16).

William Gray, of Community Lincs/YMCA Lincolnshire, also part of the working group, said: "The Spalding Good Neighbour Scheme aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by helping people over the age of 18 with the sort of tasks that good neighbours would lend a hand with.

"This could include fetching prescriptions, occasional shopping, befriending, lifts to GP/hospital appointments, form filling, letter writing, dog walking, light gardening and digital skills, all on a short-term basis.

"We have distributed a residents’ survey to a number of areas in Spalding to establish the demand for a Good Neighbour Scheme.

"This is providing an indication of how many people are willing to volunteer to support the local community and ensure that our Good Neighbour Scheme meets the needs of our community."
