Good Ofsted rating for Spalding St John the Baptist School – where ‘pupils love to learn’.

A school where ‘pupils love to learn’ has been rated as ‘good’.

Spalding's St John The Baptist Primary School was visited by Ofsted inspectors on April 25.

“We are thrilled to be able to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection with the wider community,” said head teacher Clare Robinson.

“Staff have worked relentlessly over the last couple of years to put into place an incredible curriculum offer for our children, and to create a culture and ethos that supports all our children to shine.

“I was particularly pleased that the report acknowledges, not only the ambitious curriculum that we offer, but also the pastoral side of our work in supporting our families, as well as our pupils’ wider personal development.

“We know that St John’s is a wonderful and happy school to learn and work at, and we are very proud that this report reflects the aspirations, learning and enjoyment that we see every day.”

The newly-published report said: “This is a very well led school where pupils love to learn. From milking a makeshift cow in Reception to building bridges in Year 4, pupils enjoy exciting and challenging learning activities. They are keen to share their enthusiasm for school life and their high opinion of their teachers.”

The report also stated ‘expectations of work and behaviour are high’ and that ‘pupils strive to meet these high expectations and to model the school’s values’.

It added:“Leaders ensure that teachers have the expertise to deliver the curriculum well. This is consistent across the school.

“Teachers bring the curriculum to life for pupils. For example, in a design technology project, pupils produce their own Spaghetti Bolognese meals.”

It continued: “Pupils learn about people from different backgrounds. They show high levels of respect for others.”

The report also pointed out aspects in which it hopes St John’s can improve.

“The redesigned curriculum has not yet been fully embedded. As a result, some pupils do not achieve as well as they could,” it continued.

“Pupils’ understanding of British values is underdeveloped. Some pupils do not remember the British values they have been taught.”
