Customers and staff from a Spalding chippie have helped put a charity back on its feet after two break-ins over a four-day period.

Westlode Fisheries, in Westlode Street, raised £100 for St Barnabas Hospice and a cheque was handed over at the charity’s shop in Market Place yesterday.

Fardous Ali, of Westlode Fisheries, said: “After we read about the break-ins three weeks ago, we felt that we had to make a difference and do something to get the ball rolling for St Barnabas Hospice.

“So we decided to give ten per cent of our takings from last Friday to the charity, along with cash donations from our customers.

“As well as regulars, we also had some new customers who had read about what we were doing on social media.

“One customer said that a member of their family had been helped by St Barnabas Hospice so they were really happy that we were doing something.”

Caroline Peach, the hospice’s retail manager, said: “I think it’s fantastic the way Westlode Fisheries has come forward to support St Barnabas after the recent burglaries at our Spalding shop.

“The cheque for £100 is such a great amount to have raised for the charity and I would like to thank Westlode Fisheries and their customers for their generosity and support.”
