Spalding Royal British Legion Poppy Princess is crowned after poetry competition
The first Royal British Legion Poppy Princess competition has been held.
A group of school children read their poems confidently and fluently to a panel of judges, which included Sally Sneath, Doreen Hewitt and Coun Anthony Casson, who were impressed with the standard of entries.
Although all of the poems were beautiful, Grace Bashell was declared the winner and Poppy Princess.
Teacher Kim Bird attended the competition. She was excited as Spalding Parish Church School has recently launched a Poetry Club and their first lesson had been focused on writing entries for this competition.

Youngsters said they are looking forward to being part of future community events and know this will be a great platform to link into their history learning about First World War.
The poems will be used as a vehicle for learning and they will be supporting the Poppy Appeal at school.
The Poppy Princess and her attendants will officiate for the first time at Spalding’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday, November 10.
