South View Community Primary School in Crowland opened its doors for a special breakfast to celebrate National Grandparents’ Day'.

The children and staff at South View were keen to develop their ‘intergenerational links’ within the community and figured the best starting point would be the children's own grandparents.

In the age of working parents and long hours, grandparents can often be seen taking on the role of ‘parent’ during the day and the school felt it was about time this was appreciated.

Head teacher Mrs Tomlins said: "We have so many dedicated grandparents who not only support their grandchildren but also really love spending time with them. As this weekend celebrates ‘National Grandparents Day’ it gave us the ideal opportunity to show them how much we appreciate them... and what better way to do that than with a bacon roll!

Grandparent, Susan Vining said: "I just wanted to say a big thank you for the lovely breakfast we had this morning, at my grandson’s invitation.

"What a lovely, kind, thoughtful idea to include grandparents. It was lovely to be able to come to the school, the food was hot and tasty, the fruit selection great and loved the music playing too. Your staff serving and mingling were a pleasure too. Thank you very much South View – I do hope you run this again next year – it would be lovely to come again."
