Spalding Academy officially opens £3million new L Block
A £3million new classroom block has been unveiled at a growing secondary school.
Spalding Academy needs additional classrooms to accommodate an extra 150 pupils over the next five years as its Year 7 intake will increase from 270 to 300.
Lincolnshire County Council has invested more than £3million to build the new eight block classroom, which was officially opened by MP Sir John Hayes and Coun Liz Sneath.
Known as L Block, the eight spacious classrooms, spread over two floors, are fully equipped with large display screens and additional storage for teachers.
Business and Geography departments will be using this new block and this has allowed other departments in the school to increase the teaching areas for their subjects.
The building was designed to be environmentally friendly with large amounts of insulation and energy saving equipment such as ventilation systems and LED lighting. The school had won the Environmental Champions category in the 2023 Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards.
Lucy Conley, Chief Executive Officer at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust said: “The popularity of Spalding Academy and our student numbers keep growing and it is therefore important we continue to provide outstanding teaching facilities for our students so they receive the best possible education we can provide.
“These new classrooms are just some of the improvements we have made to the school in the last two years and there are further new exciting building projects to be announced soon.”
Sir John said “Spalding Academy, a school I know so well and have backed throughout, has gone from strength to strength. This substantial investment will, by improving facilities available for pupils, secure the progress that has been made so far and promote even more.”
