Holbeach gym owner delighted with athletes performance at major competitions
A gym owner is delighted with the performances two of his athletes are putting in.
Sam Fowler, who owns Royals Gym in Holbeach, has watched Craig Candler and Paul Carter achieve a number of milestones since he first set up the premises.
Having worked alongside the pair since 2018, he is very proud of their progress.
“It’s brilliant. It’s fantastic,” he said.
“It’s brilliant. It’s fantastic.
“I’ve been friends with Craig and we started training together when we were 16 years old. I’ve known him for years, and obviously I’ve seen the progress he’s made since then right through to what he’s doing now.
“It’s no small feat to get on an international stage. It’s amazing.
“The dedication and time these guys put into their training to make that happen is phenomenal. Fitting it in around family life and work life, you’ve got to be committed to it to make it happen.
“It’s a privilege for us to see it.”
When it comes to the business side of things, Mr Fowler says the exposure this kind of success gives his gym will always be welcomed.
He added: “It is really good for us. It’s always been in my business plans as such, and it was always a dream to have people competing at a high level.
“The only way we can do that is by offering the opportunity to go into these sports, and we really push and encourage competitive sport here.
“You never know who the next person is walking through the door. It could be the next world champion rower or cyclist or weightlifter.
“Until they’re given that opportunity and encouraged in the right direction, you never know - and they might never know.”
With two highly respected athletes working out at the Holbeach gym regularly, Mr Fowler hopes it can inspire both current and new members into reaching for more success.
“It’s brilliant for all of us to watch, and members as well,” he said.
“Some people come here for totally different reasons, but for them to see these guys compete on TV and be the ones that are in here training with them, it’s great for them to witness as well.
“With them doing what they’re doing and with people seeing it, it encourages others to have a go. Because why not?”
