Spalding and District Gymnastic Academy welcomes new head coach – but calls for fundraising help towards expensive gym equipment
A passionate gymnastics coach says she is living her childhood dream after taking on a new role – but is calling for help to replace a club’s dated equipment.
Georgia Harper, 29, of Spalding, has recently become the new Head Coach for Spalding and District Gymnastics Academy and describes it as a ‘pinch me’ moment.
The 29-year-old from Spalding said: “I left the club eight years ago and came back in March this year, to help out part time whilst working my other job. It all kind of took over and I was loving it so much, I decided to do it full time and after the previous coach left, I was offered the position.
“It was a real pinch me moment and a childhood dream – everything fell into place and when I came back it was like I never left.
“By returning, it has brought back other staff members who had previously left coaching. Some of them I hadn’t seen for years but it feels like we haven’t been apart.
“It was a bit hectic to begin with as people don’t always like change, but everyone has settled in really well now which is nice.”
The gymnastics club was established in 1978 and settled at the Cradge Bank site in 2008. Georgia explained she is keen to replace some of the dated gym equipment by raising funds through fundraisers.
She added: “We are trying to do lots of fundraising at the moment because buying new gym equipment is so expensive. Our spring floor is in desperate need of new carpet which will cost £10,000 alone and there are other parts in the gym which look quite dated.
“We haven’t got a target of how much we would like to raise, ideally we would like enough for the carpet but even if we raise £500, that would be great.”
