Spalding Academy's Libby Mayne was crowned our secondary student of the year
Spalding Academy's Libby Mayne was crowned our secondary student of the year last Thursday.
The award, which was sponsored and judged by our event partners Duncan & Toplis, looked for students who had strived to improve their academic performance and had exhibited the most noticeable growth in their progress, attitude and discipline.
Joshua Cook from The Deepings School and Millie MacNally, who is now at Durham University, were named the runners up.
Libby, who has been at the school since joining in Year 7, is considered an exemplary student in every aspect.
She has had an almost perfect attendance record over her five years and an attitude to learning which has been graded as ‘outstanding’. Libby is a selfless sixth-form student, assisting with many school shows and supporting extracurricular activities run by the school.
Libby said: "I really enjoy the extracurriculars they do at the school.
"There were a lot of shows, performing arts, dance groups and sports groups that we competed against other schools in.
"I was in all the teams."
Joshua was described as a hard-working and conscientious student, while Millie's determination to achieve and fulfil her true potential was deemed phenomenal.
The award was one of eleven handed out in the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards, held at Springfields Events Centre in Spalding last night.
