Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Doctor Who star David Bradley will meet fans at upcoming Spalding Comicon




A star of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Doctor Who will be among the special guests at an upcoming comicon.

David Bradley - who has also appeared in iconic movies and TV series such as Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Broadchurch and After Life - will be appearing at the Spalding event in October.

The 83-year-old played Hogwarts’ cantankerous caretaker Argus Filch in six of the Harry Potter movies, as well as his scene stealing role as sadistic Lord Walder Frey in the Game of Thrones series.

He also played the first Doctor in the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas special, as well as a number of stage and screen credits from work with the Royal Shakespeare Company to appearing in Minder.

“We are absolutely thrilled to reveal that David Bradley will be our headline guest at this year’s Spalding Comicon,” a statement from the organisers said.

“He’ll be available to sign memorabilia including DVDs, books, posters, and more - so don’t miss the chance to get your favourite Harry Potter item personally signed.

“David makes only a handful of convention appearances each year, and we are truly honoured to welcome him to Spalding Comicon.”

David will be among a number of famous faces appearing at the event later this year., while live wrestling action and the chance to go Back to the Future will also be on the cards.

Already confirmed to appear at this year’s Spalding Comicon are Doctor Who stars Sylvester McCoy, who played the Doctor for 42 episodes in the 1980s, and Sophie Aldred, who played his assistant Ace, plus child star Lily Baker, who appeared in the 2023 Christmas special.

The Harry Potter theme will include a to-be-announced headlining guest plus the return of Martin Ballantyne, who attended the 2023 Sutton Bridge Comicon, this event’s predecessor.

Martin has played a Scary Face in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Mundungus Fletcher's associate in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

He has also been seen on the big screen as Joker’s henchman in The Dark Knight.

Also appearing will be Hattie Hayridge, who played Holly in Red Dwarf, and Clem So, who has appeared in Star Wars, Mission Impossible, Doctor Who, Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Meanwhile, Filiz Fairweather has also been recently added to the roster.

She has appeared in a number of TV shows and movies including Wicked, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, The Witcher, Ted Lasso and Black Mirror.

Among the attractions will be the return of Falling Starr Wrestling, whose grapplers will put on live matches to wow the crowds during the day.

The organisation debuted at last year’s comicon, delighting the crowds who had the chance to get up close to the action.

The event will also feature a Back to the Future cosplay competition, with two hoverboards up for grabs for the best outfits.

With the DeLorean used by Marty McFly to travel through time in the iconic 80s movies among the attractions at the event, you are being invited to pay homage and get dressed up.

So whether it’s Biff, Doc Brown or Clara Clayton that tickles your fancy, don’t miss out on the chance to look like your favourite character.

“To celebrate the arrival of the iconic Back to the Future DeLorean at Spalding Comicon - Sponsored by The Retro Retreat Kings Lynn - we're giving away two amazing hoverboards (worth around £200 each),” the organisers posted.

“One for the Best Adult Cosplay and one for the Best Junior Cosplay.”

The event will return to Springfields Events and Conference Centre on October 18, with the inaugural Spalding Card Show offering trading card fans a treat the following day.
