Crowland Abbey Harvest Flower Festival event helped raise more than £1,000

A successful harvest flower festival has helped raise more than £1,000 towards the upkeep of a popular church.

Crowland Abbey hosted the annual event over the weekend and visitors could view a range of harvest flower displays and enjoy the refreshments and crafts stalls available.

The event date was moved due to other commitments however the church warden for the historic Abbey, David Searle, was happy with how it went. He said: “It went very well and was well attended for the time of year and we saw lots of regular visitors who still came to support the event which was nice.

“We normally host our flower festival in August, however the dates weren't’ available this year, so the flower committee decided to incorporate a mini flower festival with our annual harvest festival.

“We raised £1,700 which was good and all of the money goes towards to general upkeep of the Abbey, as it is an ancient building which needs lots of tender loving care.

“The money is always very welcome and it helps with the running of the church and various activities we put on as well.

“We need to put these events on to keep the church open and we do various things throughout the year to make sure we can.”

The Abbey is getting ready to host a selection of Christmas events – keep up to date with the Crowland Abbey Facebook page.
