Holbeach Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) looking for members to join its new group

A new town amateur theatre group has been formed – and will be holding a meet and greet for those interested in joining as members.

Holbeach Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) will hold an open evening on Sunday, November 26 between 7.30pm and 10pm at the WI Hall in Park Road.

Ian Collins - one of the four founders along with Natalie Mills, Sue McLaughlin and Colin Robinson - said: “We have officially formed and think it will be really good for Holbeach.

“We are four really good friends and want to do something for the community.”

Mr Collins, a piano teacher from Sutton Bridge, was previously involved with the Sutton Bridge Players.

He said: “There is quite a lot of interest and it depends on who wants to come along and join us – it is a fantastic venue and we have full use of it.”

The brand new community group aims to put on annual pantomimes and possibly musicals and has acquired funding for the first quarter.

Initially the group is hoping to recruit adults and youngsters who are 14 years and above.

Mr Collins said: “We are looking at that age group at this stage as there are many safeguarding rules.

“We hope to have more children involved and we do have a registered chaperone.

“Parents and guardians are welcome to come along and be actively involved.”

The meet and greet will be a chance to ask about set design and building, make-up, costume, acting and which area may be of interest.

There will also be some fundraising events such as bingo to get involved with.

Mr Collins added “We thought why not try something different – there is a demand in Holbeach for something like this – bigger and better. “
