Spalding town centre has changed says South Holland District Council cabinet member Rodney Grocock

The man leading Spalding Steering Group, district councillor Rodney Grocock, says things have improved in the town.

Here is his letter:

I read that the new leader of the opposition has stated he could not see any changes in the last two years in Spalding.

I must respond to that. You published that Spalding had received £500k but that is wrong. Spalding and Holbeach received £250k each for town improvements.

Over the past two years we have been in a Covid pandemic but, during this time, work was and is still being done by the council.

We have carried out large pieces of work at Ayscoughfee, Spalding Cemetery, Daffodil Walk, Winfrey Avenue Toilets, and the bus station.

If those areas are too far away from the town centre, this is what we have done in the centre.

South Holland Centre has had lots of improvement work done to it and more people are visiting the centre to enjoy the food and the excellent entertainment. The pigeon’s population has been reduced. Spalding in Bloom was magnificent this year and a big thank you to the volunteers and especially Mr and Mrs Pete Williams.

The council is waiting for the two updates on the National Lottery Bid and the Business Improvement District bid.Behind the scenes we have been working very hard with our partners in respect of public realm. This will result in huge changes for Spalding. The areas near Longstaff,Red Lion Street, in front of Boots and Bridge Street will improve. We are now waiting for our partners to let us know the timetable when they can complete the work, but in my humble option this work will change the whole look of Spalding.

We will be fitting QR Codes to our buildings to let people know more about Spalding and the council is also awaiting bids for a Wayfinding and Heritage Trail

Spalding is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family and I will continue to do my best for its residents.
