Join Spalding Guardian's campaign to encourage residents to support local businesses with their Christmas shopping

This year, businesses in South Holland need our help more than ever which is why the Spalding Guardian is launching a campaign to encourage readers to have a local Christmas.

Whether it’s your turkey for the big day, a tree and decorations to admire or gifts for someone you love, you can find it all in South Holland and each week we will showcase what is available.

In the face of the second lockdown, quick thinking companies have moved online and, for those who aren’t as technically savvy as others, many are also accepting orders via telephone.

Bookmark, in The Crescent in Spalding, and Charmed Interiors, on Bridge Street, are two businesses which have a plethora of items available online which can be delivered straight to your front door.

Darren Sutton, general manager of the two shops, says that if shoppers can continue to support small, independent businesses online they stand a better chance of surviving.

He said: “Rather than heading straight to sites such as Amazon, hopefully people will look to shopping with local stores online as it will really help to support them.

“I know that there’s a few people who don’t like shopping online but this year it will really help to compensate businesses for the month they will have lost due to the lockdown.”

Presents and decorations can be found on the Charmed Interiors website, from cosy bedding perfect for those chilly evenings to beautiful gifts from popular brands such as Sophie Allport and Orla Kiely Home.

Darren said: “For Black Friday we already have a 20% discount code on the website and it’s free delivery for orders which come to £20 or more.”

Bookmark also has a selection of books available online along with wooden toys, jigsaws stationary and kitchenware.

Darren added: “We also have gift cards available to purchase online for items within the shop and afternoon teas within the cafe once we can reopen.”
