'Dog mess needs to be cleaned off our streets' - is the message from Spalding business Lincs Dog Training - Made Easy
Fundraisers at a Spalding business are on a mission to clean up the town's streets but need your help.
The team and customers at Lincs Dog Training - Made Easy, have been busy raising money over the past few months to buy new 'poo bag' dispensers for communities across the district.
Pinchbeck Parish Council, Moulton, Moulton Seas End, Sutton St Edmund and Cowbit, are among those taking on the new dispensers - but as Spalding doesn't have a 'town council' as such, the team say they are struggling to get them in place in the town.
Helen Vaitkevicieus runs the business with her husband Ray. She said: "We are trying to locate places in Spalding where it would be appropriate to put the dispensers. We have five sponsored by Burns Dog Food and we are looking for a place where they can go but they need to be looked after and restocked."
South Holland District Councillor and co-founder of Spalding Riverside Forum, Jack McLean, is supporting Helen and Ray in reaching out to see if people would be happy to get involved.
He said: "The Vernatt's Drain have two on the reserve and we are investigating options for the Spalding riverside."
Helen added: "People moan about dog poo but no one wants to do anything about it. The dispensers are also needed along the riverbank but we need someone to hold the bags for us and to restock then."
Volunteers happy to look after the dispensers would not be expected to pay for the new bags, as that is done through the fundraising. The bags are biodegradable.
If you would like to get involved and either sponsor one of the dispensers or are happy to look after one and make sure it is kept stocked up, you can contact Helen and Ray. Call 01775 761795 or email: helen50v@breathe.com
As well as raising money for the dispensers, Lincs Dog Training supports medical detection dogs.
A person who does not clear up their dog's mess may be committing an offence under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and can be liable to a maximum penalty of £1000.
Dog owners should always carry a bag to clean up their pet's mess and can dispose of the bag in any red dog poo bin or refuse bin.
