Pinchbeck company Woozelbears is helping pets to get back on their paws
Vet nurses will be helping struggling cats and dogs to get back on their paws with a hydrotherapy pool.
Lauren and Andrew Greedy have set up therapy and grooming business Woozelbears in Pinchbeck last month.
The couple are both vet nurses and were inspired to get into rehabilitation after Lauren has felt the benefit of hydroptherapy in her own treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.
They are now helping to support pets progress with a hydroptherapy pool and an underwater treadmill.
Lauren said: “I have seen how hydrotherapy had benefitted me and am passing that onto the animals. Having seen the benefits we decided to hang up our stethoscopes and set out on a different path.”
They had also seen the benefits of hydrotherapy with a family pet who had elbow dysplasia.
Having moved to the area in 2019, their plans to open the business were delayed due to the issues with supply during the pandemic.
The unit, in Venture Court, has been fitted out with a heated pool and underwater jets to help pets to build up muscles and suppleness, while not putting any pressure on their bodies.
Lauren said the animals wear a harness or life jacket to control movement - and also have breaks from the exercises.
She said: “First we look at how they are moving before we move onto the exercise.”
For those animals who are nervous about the pool, there is also the underwater treadmill - with controlled levels of water.
Lauren says the benefits of these treatments include retaining body condition and muscle mass.
She said: “A lot of owners tend to see that after a few sessions that their pets have a new lease of life.”
