Community spirited villagers in Fleet help to combat cost of living crisis
A group of community spirited villagers are putting plans in place to help their neighbours combat the cost of living crisis.
People are facing uncertain futures due to rising costs of energy, mortgages and food, but help is at hand.
The Fleet Community Responders have been busy collecting items that could prove invaluable for householders this winter and beyond.
“Our motto is just to do what we can the best way we can,” explained Eileen Gilliatt, who is running the group with Coun Eddie McNally and Mandy Littlejohn.
The group is looking to issue items such as winter weather clothing, throws, baskets, food, cleaning products, torches and LED lightbulbs to lighten the burdens this year.
Packages and parcels will be tailored to the needs of the household, whether it’s an elderly resident on their own or a young family.
Donations are already being made to the group, with local businesses such as Woodbine Cottage and the Unicorn Diner lending their support and the Fleet Parish Council Donating £600.
“People are coming to support and it’s really good,” Eileen added.
“This (the cost of living crisis) could affect anyone, people on their own and families and we want to do what we can to provide a bit of help.
“We’re trying to do something kind.”
The group is also sharing moneysaving tips on their Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Responders are also hoping to keep the youngsters smiling with a proposed Christmas event and Santa Run, with details to be confirmed soon.
All requests to the responders will be treated in a confidential manner.
