Lincolnshire County Council Highway bosses confirm plan for opening new Two Plank Bridge in Spalding

A timeline for the opening of a new footbridge has been set out by highway bosses.

Following a more than two year wait by residents, the long replacement for Two Plank Bridge in Spalding, was installed last week – but residents were left wondering when the new structure will be finally be open for use.

Lincolnshire County Council has revealed work will be completed and open for the public in December.

A spokesperson for the county council’s highways team said: “The bridge still needs to be secured and the footpath works completed on both sides of the Vernatts Drain. We expect to have all the associated works completed and the bridge opened in mid-December, before the end of the year – subject to weather.”

The previous Two Plank Bridge was removed in March 2022 by Lincolnshire County Council, who stated it would be closed for 18-months whilst construction work on the northern section of Spalding Western Relief Road, took place.
