Traffic lights which caused congestion in a Spalding street will be removed
Highways bosses say traffic lights which have caused heavy congestion along a town street today will be removed.
Lincolnshire County Council says the temporary lights which were placed at the junction of Queen’s Road and Holbeach Road in Spalding will be taken down before 10am tomorrow.
The lights were in place as part of a project to replace the footpaths along Queen’s Road.
Earlier today, motorists in the area reported issues with congestion along Holbeach Road, which is already seeing an increase in traffic as a result of the works at Springfields roundabout.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: "The £250,000 footway replacement project on Queens Road has been underway since July and is set to finish by the end of the month.
"With the project nearing completion, the contractor has put signals up at the Queens Road/Holbeach Road junction to carry out the remaining works. Unfortunately, the timing of this final piece of the project has started on the first day of back-to-school, which is less than ideal.
"However, we've reviewed the need for these signals in light of the traffic delays today and will be removing them by 10am tomorrow, if not before."
