Spalding’s Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens host Medieval weekend

A number of medieval figures returned to a historic town site for a weekend of merriment and mayhem.

Families were able to step back in time for the Ayscoughfee Goes Medieval event last weekend on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22.

Re-enactors from The Knights of Skirbeck brought the world of chevaliers, ladies and chivalry back to life to Spalding’s very own historic grounds.

There was also a chance to learn about types of medieval weapons and their uses and a whole host of other activities.

Coun Elizabeth Sneath, Portfolio Holder for Conservation and Heritage at South Holland District Council said: “We were pleased to once again host the Knights of Skirbeck at Ayscoughfee Gardens.

“The event was well attended, with guests taking full advantage of the exceptional weather to explore and enjoy the gardens.

“We are proud to provide a setting that supports community engagement and cultural enrichment, and we look forward to welcoming the Knights back in the future.”

The Hall and Museum Gardens originated in the 1450s and provide a fascinating glimpse into the town’s past.

Organisers hoped the event would bring the community together, celebrate local history and support tourism.

Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens previously held the event last year and brought it back for a second time following the events success.
