Chosen charity to open at Long Sutton garden centre
A booming Holbeach charity is opening a third outlet, this time in Long Sutton’s Silverwood Garden Centre.
In July, Chosen volunteer Carol bought her favourite cause a second shop in Holbeach because the charity’s Fleet Street premises were almost drowning under a flood of donated goods.
A few weeks later Chosen donated £1,000 to Long Sutton Men’s Shed and one of its founders, Jack Tyrrell, and wife Linda decided to offer up space at their Silverwood base in St James’s Road.
Chosen manager Sammy Favell said: “We are going to have a small space at Silverwood Garden Centre and we are looking for another shop in Long Sutton.”
Ideally the charity would like additional premises in Market Place - or on a main shopping street - so it is better placed to boost to good causes in the town.
Chosen currently donates around £50,000 a year to groups and individuals, and has done a lot to help youngsters with disabilities.
The charity doesn’t reveal personal details of those who benefit - and a recent case involved a young girl who needed a special hoist to walk.
Sammy said: “I can’t begin to tell you the tears I shed - mostly good tears - it’s an amazing privilege to be able to do these things.”
Since Carol Foster’s amazing donation appeared in our sister paper, Chosen has had a surge in donated goods from the people of Holbeach, who are the real driving force behind the charity along with dedicated volunteers.
Linda Tyrrell, who owns Silverwood with husband Jack, is delighted to welcome Chosen to a mix of outlets that include a vintage tea room, upcycled furniture, crafts, flowers and, from October, a walk-in spray tan salon.
