Home-town hero Danny Fear looking to defeat king fu vampire Furio in title match as wrestling returns to Spalding

It’s not every day you get the chance to do battle with a kung-fu vampire.

But not everyone is home-town hero Danny Fear, who is preparing to lock horns with rival Furio and wrestling returns to Spalding - with the FSW title on the line.

Twenty-eight-year-old Danny will face his opponent as part of the Falling Starr promotion’s latest show on Saturday (March 29).

“Bringing it here is ideal,” said Danny, who took up wrestling four years ago.

“I know the people of Spalding want to see wrestling here. I tell them I’m a wrestler and they say ‘I used to love it when I was a kid growing up’.

Danny, who lives in Spalding, works as a face - the term for the good guy, villains are known as heels - and hopes the crowd will be right behind him on his home patch.

“People need that escapism, to get out and enjoy something,” said Danny, who grew up a John Cena mark.

“Its a lot about inhibition and people being able to enjoy themselves. You see people’s moods change as they watch a match

“We always aim for family-friendly entertainment, we want you to be able to bring your children and grandchildren.

“Wrestling is a variety show. every match is different. within those matches there’s something for everyone and a lot of it is family fun. This isn’t extreme wrestling.”

King’s Lynn-based Falling Starr is no stranger to the area, having put on shows in the patch - including a number of bouts at last year’s Spalding Comicon, where Sassy Bear Clarence and co thrilled the crowds.

For Danny, who has a background in the arts, he sees wrestling as a chance to entertain.

“I do tend to work in the comedy style,” he said.

“I can be a bit funny and humiliate my opponents and try to anger them to make mistakes. I also try to stay light on my feet and spring around, but I won’t go as far as saying I’m a highflier.”

Saturday’s action will be held at Polka Dot Dance Academy, Westlode Street.

Tickets cost £10 per child, £12 per adult and £40 per family (2 adults and two kids). They should be booked in advance and are available here.

Doors open at 7pm.
