Surfleet home transformed into a haunted house to celebrate Halloween

A couple have transformed their home into a haunted house to raise some smiles this Halloween.

Giant inflatables and homemade decorations are currently dominating Joe Chapman and Anna Lucyna’s Surfleet home – and it’s proving a hit with locals and passers-by.

“This year we’ve gone to some extra lengths. It’s just purely because the kids love it,” Anna said.

“The whole thing is to get people smiling and make the kids happy.

“You don’t always get a lot happening for Halloween.”

Giant inflatable skeletons, witches and ghosts peer over the front wall while a giant spider’s web and pumpkin hover over the home.

Dotted around the property are homemade grave stones with warnings such as ‘don’t laugh, you’re next’ greeting visitors.

An evil clown greets you at the front door and even inside the property a few Halloween decorations add to the exterior’s spooky appeal.

Another eyecatching addition are the two body bags hanging from the upstairs windows.

“The first time this year we’ve put the bodies out and it does get a few comments,” Anna added.

The decor has proven a hit with Joe’s daughter Brooke, while passers-by have also become spellbound by the Surfleet Road property.

“We get people passing and stopping to have a look and take pictures,” Joe said.

“When there were roadworks down here cars were queueing up outside and you could see them all taking pictures and having a good look.”

While plans are already being made for this year’s Christmas decorations, Joe and Anna will be welcoming trick or treaters on October 31.
