Spalding man Mark Popple is latest candidate for South Holland and The Deeping seat

A Spalding man is the latest candidate who will be vying for your votes in the forthcoming General Election.

Mark Popple has been announced as the Labour candidate for the South Holland and the Deepings seat.

Mr Popple (25) is among the eight Labour candidates who will be hoping to win seats across Lincolnshire.

Potential candidates now have just two days left to lodge their nominations with South Holland District Council, which has been served with a notice of election.

Mr Popple is a conveyancer and a university graduate.

Labour has also announced its other candidates for Lincolnshire: Boston and Skegness - Ben Cook; Gainsborough - Perry Smith; Grantham and Stamford -Kathryn Salt; Lincoln - Karen Lee; Louth and Horncastle- Eleanor Green; Sleaford and North Hykeham - Linda Edwards-Shea; Newark - James Baggaley.

A definitive list of candidates, who will be campaigning to represent South Holland and the Deepings, is due to be released later this week after nominations have closed at 4pm on Thursday, November 14.

The majority of political parties have now announced who will be standing in this area.

These include sitting MP Sir John Hayes (CON), who was campaigning in Spalding town centre over the weekend with members of the local branch o the Conservative Party.

Davina Kirby was last week announced as the Liberal Democrats candidate for the area

David Dickason will be representing the Brexit Party and an offical launch is due to be held shortly.

Earlier this year, Martin Blake was announced as the Green Party candidate.

Things are also gearing up in the Grantham and Stamford constituency, which includes Bourne, after sitting MP Nick Boles announced that he was stepping down.

Mr Boles made his comment on Twitter, when he said he would be urging the government to review laws on assisted dying.

He posted: “I will not be standing at the General Election so this will be my last act as an MP."

Candidates who will be hoping to take over his seat include: Harrish Bisnauthsing (Lib Dem), Gareth Davies (Con), Anne Gayfer (Green Party), Jessica Swift (Brexit).

If you have not registered to vote, there is still time to do so. Registrations will be accepted until midnight on Tuesday, November 26, by going to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must be received by the district council before 5pm on November 26.Proxy vote applications must be lodged by 5pm on December 4.
