Gosberton Human Donkey Derby and other jubilee events in Holbeach, Quadring, Moulton, Pinchbeck, Spalding and Cowbit
We’ve all heard of pin the tail on the donkey - but one jubilee event will be taking the tail and pinning it on humans instead.
Gosberton will be holding an event like no other in the form of its Human Donkey Derby.
As part of the celebrations to mark the Queen’s 75 years on the throne, the event will be taking place in the special Jubilee Marquee at the village’s playing field on June 4.
Sue Thorley, one of the organisers, explained how it works.
She said: “It’s definitely going to be a lot of fun but I’m not sure people quite know what happens.
“There’s no effort required at all and anyone from three years old to 83 can join in.
“There are six humans at the starting line and they all wear donkey ears and tails to look a bit more realistic.
“Before them is a long mat which is marked out in squares. Children love to get involved throwing the two large dice, one which determines the way to go and the other to show how many squares they move.”
There is carpet rolled out at one point to signify the water ditch - which the donkeys will want to avoid as landing there will take them back to the starting line.
There is also a six inch hurdle known as “the jump”, landing on the hurdle will show that you’ve fallen at the jump and you’ll be out of the competition.
There will even be prize money on offer for the winner, plus individual picnics for each person who joins in.
Sue added: “It will be a great family based community event which is nice and easy for everyone to take part in.
“It will be lovely for everyone to have a good time together.”
The event will start at 6pm and there will be betting, a bar, raffle and prizes.

There will be a host of events taking place across the district to celebrate the jubilee.
Gosberton
June 3

June 4
Queen’s Tea Party between 11:30am and 1:30pm. This is taking place at the Marjorum Hall in Gosberton Risegate and there will be a lunch and dessert.

Human Donkey Derby will take place at the Jubilee Marquee on Gosberton Playing Field at 6pm.
June 5
Five churches in Gosberton and Clough have joined together and will be holding a celebration service in the Jubilee Marquee at 11am. All are welcome.
This will be followed by a ‘Bring your Own Picnic’ to eat in the park at noon. Don’t forget chairs and ground blankets as well as your picnic.
There will be music, stalls, competitions, refreshments and a quiz throughout the day.
No admission charge. All donations will go to local charities.
Holbeach St Marks
June 2
9pm – the bar at Village Hall will open for some warming drinks
9.40pm - the playing of ‘Majesty’ by a solo cornet/trumpet player to fanfare the lighting of the beacon.
9.45pm – lighting of the new Jubilee Beacon in the Playing Field in line with all the beacons nationally.
June 4
Church Flower Festival 10am – 4pm
Records of baptisms, weddings and burials along with some original history of the church will be available to look at.
12 noon – unveiling of new village sign at junction of Lincoln Lane/Lapwater Lane /St Marks Road.
June 5
11am - a special church service to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
12 noon onwards - Picnic in the Playing Field in support of Holbeach St Marks Royal British Legion. Bring your own food and chairs or rugs. A BBQ will be cooking sausages and any food you bring. There will be traditional games, cakes stalls and tombola/raffle. Plus, the bar will be open.
Quadring
June 5
Quadring’s ‘Bring Your Own Picnic’ Street Party a St Margaret’s Church Hall.
No tickets required, just turn up with your picnic, ask your friends and neighbours too.
There will be free children’s crafts, seven decades of music and an open microphone. There will also be Jubilee Celebration Tree Planting and a Jubilee Pudding Share (make and bring a pudding to share).

Surfleet
June 2
At Glen Park there will be a special event from 4pm to 10:30pm
There will be a raffle, decorate a crown competition, fancy dress competition, bouncy castle, entertainment from the Pinchbeck Tappers, a ‘Throughout the Ages’ disco, refreshments and a special cake.
The lighting of the beacon will take place at 9:45pm
There will be a children’s treasure hunt A set of 20 decorated Union Flag decorated stones will be hidden around Surfleet - as well as one platinum and gold stone - as part of the preparations for a jubilee event on June 2.
Anyone who finds a stone can then collect a £5 reward - or £20 for the platinum and gold one - when attending the Celebrate Surfleet event on the day and handing them over.
The first batch of stones will be distributed from May 22 - with the remaining ones hidden about a week or so later.
Treasure hunters then have until June 2 to discover one or more stones - with the deadline being the day of the village’s celebratory event.
Moulton
June 2
Lantern Parade
Meet at the Mill at 7pm to leave at 7.30pm
The parade will go along High Street, West Cobgate, Broad Lane, and Shivean Gate through the pathway to All Saints Close, Reynolds Gardens and Bell Lane back to the Community Centre car park where the beacon will be lit at 9:15 pm. The church bells will be ringing and the parade will be led with a piper.
Children can bring their own lanterns (no naked flames) battery tea lights and glow sticks will be provided. Hot dogs and hot and cold drinks will also be provided after the parade. All free of charge.
June 3
Afternoon Tea in the Moulton Mill at 2pm.
Ticket only free event tickets required for numbers. Please contact Jo on 01406 371275 to obtain tickets (70 tickets on a first come, first served basis). Deadline for tickets is May 20.
Judging for the Prince/Princess at the Community Centre at 6pm. Entry forms available from, John Harrox School, Moulton Post office or Facebook page.

June 4
Moulton Trooping the Colour” and Village Fete
Village Fete Starting at 1pm. Village Parade leaving the Mill at 2.30pm going along High Street, Station Road, Ashby Gardens, West Cobgate, Broad Lane, Westmoreland Road going through the village green along Bell Lane, Reynolds Gardens along Bell Lane, Hatt Close back along Bell Lane to the Mill.
The parade will have the Jubilee Prince and Princess in attendance. The parade will include vintage tractors, cars and other vehicles.
During the afternoon there will be vehicles displayed, craft stalls, games and other stalls at the Community Centre, Mill, Village Green and Church.
There will be face painting; Jubilee goodie bags for the children and teddy bear parachuting at the Mill. Free.
Village Fete competitions - Painting, Cake, Photography will be shown at the Community Centre. Entries to be ready for judging for 10am judging 11am onwards. There will also be the Jubilee decorated house.
The Swan will be showing the “Party at the Palace” on a large screen in the Pub Garden. Free entry.
June 5
The Big Jubilee Lunch
The road will be closed from the Village Green along Broad Lane to Community Centre. Tables and chairs will be set out for you to bring your own picnics to join the National “Big Jubilee Lunch” at 12pm.
During the afternoon there will also be a “Mouton’s Got Talent” show for adults and children on a stage on the Village Green. Starting at 2pm
The Big Jubilee Raffle will also be drawn after the Talent Show.
Moulton Seas End
June 2
From 8pm at the Village Hall there will be cheese and wine followed by the beacon lighting at 9:45pm.
June 3
From 10am to 2pm at the Village Hall there will be coffee and cake, plus the village jubilee picture unveiling.
June 4
From 10am to 10pm it’s the Family Fun Day on the Village Playing Field.
There will be bouncy castles, an inflatable assault course, face painting, BBQ, village tug of war, football kickabout, drinks from The Baravan and line dancing.
June 5
From 11am to 3pm there will be coffee and cake, raffle draw, competition winner presentations and live music with local band RetrospeKt.

June 4
Punt gun salute at 11am on Cowbit Playing Field then from 1pm the Jubilee Funday.
There will be an Adele tribute act, live music and arena events, vintage and classic car show, beer tent and refreshments, fairground rides, arena displays, dog show, rock bus and stalls.
From 6pm there will be live bands, food and licensed bar and fireworks.
There is also a scarecrow festival running from June 2 to June 5.
Pinchbeck
June 2
Lighting of the beacon will take place. Gather at St Mary’s Church Hall at 8:15pm for an 8:30pm start. Jeff Woods AKA Pavanotti will be there to keep everyone entertained. The lighting will take place at 9:45pm.
June 4
The free event - Picnic in the Park at the Glebe Field. From 2pm to 6:30pm, there will be live music, entertainment, games, ice cream and hot food.
Sutton Bridge
June 4
Party in the Memorial Park. The village will come together for an afternoon and evening to promote the various activities undertaken in the village which may not be known to all residents. There will be games, competitions and much much more the Saturday will be rounded off by the relighting of the beacon and a grand firework display
Long Sutton
June 5
Family fun day in Winfrey Park from 10am.
There will be a dog show, craft stalls, traditional games, fair rides, food and drink, car boots, vintage vehicles, competitions and Popcorn Media, singers and Spalding Brass Band.
Spalding
June 2
Chairman of South Holland District Council Paul Redgate will light the beacon at Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens at 9:45pm.
There will be a ‘best of British’ offering at the South Holland Centre.

The Jubilee Picnic will be held at Ayscoughfee Gardens from 11am to 2pm. There will be garden games, a corgi trail, face paining and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum will be open.
Whaplode Drove
June 2
The Big Jubilee Celebration at the Elizabethan Centre.
Beacon Lighting evening on Thursday June 2 with a live brass band (Kirton Brass Band) giving a pre-ceremony concert from 8pm followed by the official Beacon Lighting at 9.45pm followed by light show and fireworks.
June 4
There will be an all day community fun day involving organisations such as local schools, the WI and the Church.
There will be fancy dress, games and food and the evening concert from Buckingham Palace will be shown on large screens both indoors and out.
June 5
Picnic in The Park which will be a ‘bring your own lunch’ event with outside seating and tables which will resemble a more traditional street party. There will be a live DJ who will be playing music from 1952 onwards.
