Lincolnshire Police investigate discovery of human jawbone in Alford but ask people to stop specutlating
A human jaw bone has been discovered in a garden.
Lincolnshire Police have launched an investigation after the jaw along with a number of animal bones were found at a property in East Street, Alford, yesterday (Thursday, March 27).
But the force has now issued a plea to ask people to stop ‘speculating’ on the discovery.
The bones - which were found close to the medieval core of the village - have been sent for testing.
A force statement said: “A scene guard was in place while initial investigations were undertaken. The bones have been recovered and sent for forensic testing to determine their age, which will take some time.
“Initial investigations of historical records suggest that the address may be close to the medieval core of the village, as well as a Bronze Age burial site having been identified in the vicinity. There is Roman activity recorded in the area also.
“While investigations are underway, we urge members of the public to refrain from speculation on social media.”
