Empire Elite Allstars Cheerleading club to represent Spalding at European championship

Youngsters from a cheerleading team are currently celebrating their latest achievement – which will see them jet off to compete overseas.

Empire Elite AllStars in Spalding has struck gold for a second time after receiving a BID for The European Summit Championship in Lisbon, Portugal.

A group of 122 competitive athletes from the clubs under 16 level one ‘Icons’ team, secured a national champions title at a competition held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham at the beginning of June.

Following on from their success it was later announced the girls had received a BID to compete at a venue in the Portuguese capital next year.

Director and head coach, Nikita Capes said: “These girls have worked so incredibly hard this season.

“BID potential has never been mentioned by any of them and they are so humble and committed to working their hardest for each other – its just the icing on the cake.

“It’s never been about the bids for us, It’s about the athletes and the hard work, growth, resilience and teamwork.”

Empire Elite Allstars level one ‘Rebels’ team recently returned from the Prep and Rec Grand Nationals Championship in Florida, after the club received its first BID last year.

Nikita added: “The club is only in its fourth competitive season but this is now their second international bid in cheerleading – which is a rapid growing sport in the UK.

“It’s the moment of ‘we see you’ and ‘you’re good enough’ from the outside world, which means the world, when the coaches already knew that.”

The programme will be holding try outs today (Sunday, July 13) where they will select the team who will attend the European Summit next year.
