New Spalding hairdresser celebrates winning at the Hair and Beauty Awards

A hairdresser is over the moon to have won a prestigious industry award presented by a celebrity.

Chelsea Askey’s expertise in blonde and balayage hair styling has led to her winning a Best For Blonde at the Hair and Beauty Awards which she received from Britain’s Got Talent’s Jake Quickenden.

The glitzy ceremony took place at the Birmingham International Convention Centre where the BGT singer presented her with the award after beating contestants in the whole of the UK.

She said: “I did scream with excitement and said a little swear word.

“I felt so overwhelmed and once I sat back down I cried.”

Mrs Askey, 35, who has now moved to Spalding from the Isle Of Wight with her husband Jak, is joining the team at Strands of Spalding on Clover Way, owned by Sharon Tear, as a senior stylist.

Mrs Askey started her hairdressing and beauty career as a Saturday girl at the age of 14 and built up her skills to eventually own her own salon and train students in her academy.

The keen dog-lover said: “The thing I love most about it is being able to put a smile on everyone's faces.

“We are lucky we are making people happy and it is rewarding that people feel they trust you enough to open up to you and build a different kind of friendship

“If clients are feeling sad or stressed they come to us and we make them feel a bit better about themselves.”

Mrs Askey believes the passion she has for her career is beneficial to her clients after one nominated her for the awards.

She said: “Thank you to all my customers, new and old, who have been able to get me where I am today.

“Without them I wouldn't be where I am today.

“I appreciate each and every single one of them.”

The award is recognition for a lot of hard work and pressure from the judges who viewed how she presented her work including across social media platforms.

Mrs Askey added: “As they were counting down I really didn't think it would be me after seeing so many names that I have been inspired by.

“This award means I finally get the recognition for everything I have put into my career.

“I am excited to be part of Strands and thank you to my husband Jak who has supported me working so many hours.”
