“I know people who travel from Norfolk to go there!” Readers react to news popular Butters Shop at Low Fulney near Spalding will close
A popular factory shop that is preparing to close will be ‘greatly missed’.
The Butters Shop in Low Fulney, near Spalding, will shut at the end of June.
The store - which sells plants and gardening equipment - is owned by Flamingo Flowers and will cease trading as the business relocates its plant packing operation to its nearby Weston factory.
Readers have reacted to the news with sadness, with some expressing how a trip to Butters was on the to-do list of many visitors to the area.
“I am very sad the shop will be closing,” said Anita Brown.
“It has been such a good place to go all year round and with such lovely staff in the shop. It will be sorely missed.”
Clare Howitt added: “So sad. So many people who visit family always want to go to Butters.
“Let’s hope they can reconsider as, even in Covid times, it was a place we could rely on.”
Shirley Kelk said: “Will be greatly missed by all the bargain hunters, sorry to see it go.
“Staff were always helpful.”
Petra Jackson added the news was ‘such a shame’.
Of course, there were plenty of people praising the store’s employees
“The amazing team at the Butters Shop will be very sadly missed and I truly hope the company do right by them,” said Sarah Parnell.
“It is such a shame as it is always busy and I know people who travel from Norfolk just to go there.
“You will be really missed.”
Judith Skinner said: “What a disaster for all us bargains hunting gardeners and for the staff, always helpful and very obliging.
“Won’t there be a shop at the new location?”
A Flamingo Flowers statement said: “After thoroughly evaluating our current operational footprint, we have decided to relocate our plant packing operation from our current Kellet Gate site to our neighbouring Weston facility.
“This strategic move will enhance operational efficiency and ensure a more streamlined process for our valued employees and customers.
“While most of our employees will transfer to the new location, we are acutely aware of the impact this may have and are currently finalising these arrangements.
“Regrettably, we propose reducing operational management, administrative, and support roles.”
